Decomposed Body of Missing Differently Abled Teen Found in Remote Chatra Hilltop

The decomposed body of a 15-year-old differently abled girl, who had been missing since December 28 last year, was discovered on Saturday from a remote hilltop at Gangpur village in Chatra district. The grim recovery has sent shockwaves through the local community and prompted an intensive police investigation.

Identification and Discovery of the Victim

The deceased has been identified as Munni Kumari, also known as Ranu Kumari, according to police officials. The discovery was made after locals in the area noticed a foul smell emanating from the hilltop and immediately alerted the authorities.

Police teams, led by Simaria Sub-Divisional Police Officer Shubham Khandelwal, trainee Deputy Superintendent of Police Wasim Raza, and officer in-charge of the Gidhaur police station Shiva Yadav, swiftly responded to the alert. They took the body into custody from the isolated location for further examination.

Circumstances Surrounding the Disappearance

Munni Kumari had joined a group of children who were heading to a nearby forest area for a picnic on December 28. However, she did not return with the group, sparking immediate concern among her family and friends.

Other children in the group confirmed that she was not with them during the outing, leading her family to report her missing at the Gidhaur police station. This triggered a series of investigative measures by the police to locate the teenager.

Extensive Search Operations and Investigation

On the directions of Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar Agarwal, a special investigation team was formed to handle the case. The police launched a comprehensive search operation, which included:

  • Announcing a reward of Rs 20,000 for information, later increased to Rs 50,000
  • Conducting extensive ground searches in the surrounding areas
  • Pasting posters in nearby villages to gather leads
  • Utilizing drone technology to cover difficult terrain

Despite these efforts, the girl could not be traced until the discovery of her body on Saturday.

Current Status of the Investigation

Officer in-charge Shiva Yadav provided updates on the ongoing investigation, stating that the body has been sent to Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death will only be determined after the report is received, he emphasized.

Police have sealed the crime scene and collected forensic evidence from the location. We are examining all possible angles, including the role of any criminal conspiracy, Yadav added, indicating that the investigation is considering multiple scenarios.

The case continues to be a priority for Chatra district police as they work to uncover the circumstances leading to the tragic death of the differently abled teenager.
