Mohali Murder: Trusted House Help Plotted Robbery That Turned Deadly

The brutal murder of 66-year-old Ashok Kumari in Mohali has sent shockwaves through the city. Ashok Kumari was the wife of former Additional Advocate General of Punjab, Krishan Kumar Goyal. Police investigations now reveal a chilling tale of greed and betrayal. The crime was planned by the family's domestic help, Neeraj, who had worked with them for nearly eight years.

Robbery Plan Unfolds into Tragedy

According to police, Neeraj gained the trust of the household over time. He became familiar with the family's daily routine. The motive behind the crime was not personal enmity. Instead, Neeraj developed an impulse to get rich after discovering that a large quantity of gold and cash was kept in the house.

Neeraj hatched a detailed robbery plan. He called his two paternal cousins from Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, to assist him. On the day of the crime, the trio met at Phase-5 market in Mohali. They finalised the timing of the attack there.

Police Make Arrests and Recover Loot

Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans provided updates on the investigation. Police arrested Neeraj the day after the murder. A co-accused was nabbed in Fatehpur, UP. Authorities are actively looking for the third suspect.

"With the Fatehpur arrest, we recovered 28 tolas of gold and Rs 1.5 lakh cash," said SSP Hans. However, much of the loot remains missing. The complainant reported that around 40 tolas of gold and Rs 8.5 lakh in cash were stolen from the house.

"Once the third accused is arrested, we will get a clear picture of the exact amount looted," Hans added. The accused claim their intention was robbery, not murder. "They told us that when the woman raised an alarm, they panicked and strangled her," the SSP explained.

Community Reels from the Crime

The murder has deeply affected the local community. The victim's prominent background and the involvement of a trusted domestic help make the case particularly disturbing. Residents express concern over safety and trust in household staff.

Police continue their investigation to locate the remaining suspect and recover the outstanding stolen items. The case highlights how planned robberies can escalate into violent crimes with tragic consequences.
