Mumbai police have dismantled a prostitution racket operating out of a luxury hotel in south Mumbai, rescuing two actresses and arresting a make-up artist who allegedly ran the operation, an official said on Friday.
Raid Based on Tip-Off
Acting on a tip-off, the anti-human trafficking cell of the Mumbai Police raided the hotel in the Girgaon area earlier this week. The police sent a decoy customer to the establishment to confirm the illegal activity before conducting the raid, the official explained.
During the operation, police rescued two women from the premises. One of them is an actress in the Marathi film industry, while the other has appeared in cameo and supporting roles in Hindi and Bengali films, according to the official.
Make-Up Artist Arrested
The make-up artist, who allegedly acted as an agent and operated the racket, was arrested during the raid. The official said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the racket and identify others involved.
The police are examining the make-up artist's connections and possible links to other such operations in the city. The rescued actresses have been provided with counseling and are assisting the investigation.
