Mysuru city police have successfully cracked the murder case of an unidentified youth within 10 days, leading to the arrest of his mother, who allegedly killed him by smashing his head with a boulder. The police faced a significant challenge as the victim's identity was unknown, and there were no initial clues.
Investigation Details
Commissioner of Police Seema Latkar informed TOI that solving this case was the biggest challenge for the city police, given the lack of identity and evidence. After an unknown body was discovered at the foothills of Chamundi Hills near Tavarekatte in Nazarbad police limits, four special teams were formed to investigate the murder. By April 23, the police were able to identify the accused after establishing the victim's identity, leading to the mother's custody.
Surveillance and Arrest
Four special teams, under the supervision of ACP (Devaraja sub-division) K Rajendra and led by Nazarbad police station inspector Mahadevaswamy M, reviewed CCTV footage from the crime scene vicinity and various city locations. The movements of the deceased and a suspect near the crime scene at 8 am on April 14 intensified the investigation. Over 200 CCTV cameras across Mysuru were scanned, tracing the movements of both the deceased and the suspect. The accused, Manjula, aged 60, a domestic help and resident of Kurimandi, NR Mohalla, was taken into police custody.
Confession and Motive
During interrogation, Manjula revealed that her second son, Ramesh, was unmarried and living with her. He was an alcoholic who persistently harassed her for money to drink. He would return home drunk daily, quarrel with her, and cause significant mental distress. Frustrated by this, she decided to kill him. On April 14, she took Ramesh from home in an auto-rickshaw. Around 8:30 am, she got off near Tavarekatte on the road to Chamundi Hills, took Ramesh to a secluded spot, and killed him by hitting him on the head with a stick and a stone.
Legal Proceedings
The accused mother, Manjula, was arrested in connection with the case and presented before the court, which remanded her to judicial custody. Police confirmed that the investigation is complete and the suspect is now in judicial custody.
