Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar on Friday visited Cheluvamba Hospital, located within the KR Hospital premises, following allegations that a newborn died due to ant bites in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The incident has sparked outrage among the baby's parents, who claim medical negligence by hospital administrators led to the tragedy.
Details of the Incident
The parents alleged that their 7-month-old premature male baby, weighing 1.4 kilograms, succumbed to ant bites while receiving treatment in the ICU. They staged a protest outside the hospital on Thursday, demanding justice and a thorough investigation into the matter.
MP's Visit and Inspection
In response to the allegations, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP visited the hospital to assess the situation personally. Accompanied by the Dean and Director of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI), Dr K R Dakshayini, Wadiyar inspected all wards and the ICU. He inquired about the health of patients, the facilities provided to them, and the overall needs of the hospital.
Immediate Actions Taken
During his visit, Wadiyar directed Dr Dakshayini to prepare a comprehensive list of requirements and facilities needed for the hospital. He assured the hospital management that he would look into their demands and work towards fulfilling them. Notably, when patients requested hot water facilities, the MP promptly ordered the purchase of a water heater dispenser and handed it over to the hospital management.

The incident has raised serious concerns about hygiene and safety standards in the hospital's ICU. Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed inquiry into the alleged negligence.
