Nagpur Crime Branch Raids Residence, Seizes Banned Tobacco
A man was arrested in Nagpur's Jaripatka area on Friday for allegedly possessing and stocking banned tobacco products. Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch led by senior inspector Bharat Kurhade raided the residence of the accused, Suraj Meshram, a resident of Barakholi under Jaripatka police limits.
During the search, police seized prohibited tobacco products worth Rs 45,000. The stock included mixed aromatic tobacco, betel nuts, various flavoured tobacco products, and a machine used for the preparation of 'kharra', a type of chewing tobacco. Police said the accused had allegedly stocked the banned products for sale and financial gain.
Seizure Conducted in Presence of Officials
The raid was carried out in the presence of panch witnesses and food safety officer Amarnath Sontakke. Based on a complaint lodged by Sontakke, Jaripatka police registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the law. Meshram was arrested and handed over to Jaripatka police along with the seized materials.
Authorities continue to crack down on illegal tobacco sales in the region, emphasizing the health risks and legal penalties associated with banned products.
