A long-running property dispute in Nagpur turned fatal on Thursday night, resulting in the brutal murder of a 42-year-old man allegedly by his neighbour. The victim's elderly father was also seriously injured when he tried to save his son.
Attack Outside Family Home
The incident occurred in Nazul Layout, Lumbini Nagar, under the jurisdiction of the Jaripatka police. The deceased, Mangesh Bhimte, had just returned home when he was attacked. The assailant, identified as his 45-year-old neighbour Kunal alias Golu Kamble, allegedly used a sickle to inflict fatal injuries.
Mangesh's 65-year-old father, Bhimrao Bhimte, rushed to his son's aid upon hearing the commotion. In the ensuing struggle, Bhimrao was also assaulted and sustained injuries. Police reports indicate that the accused also threatened to kill Mangesh's wife, Amrita, during the violent episode.
Root of the Enmity: A Legal Battle
Investigators have traced the motive for the attack to a protracted court case over a house in the neighbourhood. The dispute was primarily between another neighbour, Ramesh Gedam, and his brother. Kamble had reportedly arranged a buyer for the property on behalf of Ramesh's brother.
The situation escalated because Bhimrao, the victim's father, had been assisting Ramesh Gedam with the legal proceedings. This support angered Kamble, who saw it as interference, leading to a simmering enmity that ultimately exploded into violence.
Aftermath and Police Action
Despite being rushed to Mayo Hospital, Mangesh Bhimte succumbed to his injuries on Friday around 10 am. His father is currently receiving treatment for his wounds.
A formal complaint was lodged by the victim's son, Akshit Bhimte. The Jaripatka police have registered a murder case against Kunal Kamble, who is currently absconding. Police revealed that the accused has a criminal history, with several burglary cases already registered against him. A manhunt is underway to locate and arrest him.
This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the quiet locality, highlighting how unresolved property conflicts can have devastating consequences. The police are continuing their investigation while urging anyone with information on the accused's whereabouts to come forward.
