In a decisive move to bolster public safety ahead of the New Year festivities and the crucial Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections, the city police executed an intensive four-day special operation. The drive, focusing on the southern sectors, spanned from December 27 to December 30, each evening from 7 PM to 11 PM.
Massive Police Deployment and Key Targets
Led by Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police Rashmitha Rao, the operation mobilized a significant force. A contingent of one assistant commissioner, three police inspectors, ten officers, and fifty constables was deployed to conduct thorough checks and raids. The action covered all police stations under Zone-4, including Hudkeshwar, Nandanvan, Imamwada, Ajni, Sakkardara, and Beltarodi.
The campaign had a multi-pronged focus: tracking criminal elements, conducting house searches on accused individuals, curbing illegal activities, and preempting any threats to law and order. A notable raid was conducted at the residence of Tajbagh-based gangster Abu Khan. In total, around 150 known goons were verified and checked during the course of the operation.
Wide-Ranging Enforcement Actions and Seizures
The police net yielded substantial results across various illegal activities. At strategic nakabandi points, 193 suspicious vehicles were meticulously inspected. The drive led to the seizure of four illegal weapons, dealing a direct blow to potential armed violence.
Illegal liquor trade was another major target, with action taken in 13 separate cases of bootlegging. To curb public nuisance, 53 individuals were penalized for consuming alcohol in public places. The enforcement also addressed substance abuse, registering six instances of consumption of prohibited narcotics.
Additional Law and Order Measures
The police left no stone unturned in their comprehensive approach. Traffic safety was enforced stringently, resulting in 13 cases registered for drunk driving. Two gambling dens were successfully raided, and action was taken against one externed accused who violated terms.
Further judicial actions included the arrest of three warrant-accused individuals and the serving of summons to 28 others. In a crackdown on tobacco law violations, action was initiated against 34 paan shops under the COPTA Act, 2003.
Demonstrating proactive foresight, the police also inspected 35 shops selling manja (kite string) ahead of Makar Sankranti, issuing strict warnings against the sale of banned nylon manja to prevent injuries and accidents.
Leadership and Future Pledge
The operation was supervised by senior officers including Assistant Police Commissioners Narendra Hiware (Ajni division) and Pradeep Shiraskar (Sakkardara division), along with police inspectors from all participating stations. DCP Rashmitha Rao emphasized the ongoing commitment, stating, "Such actions will continue to maintain peace and order, especially with New Year and municipal elections on the horizon."
The large-scale drive successfully aimed to instill a sense of security among Nagpur's citizens while sending a strong deterrent message to criminal elements during the sensitive period combining festive celebrations and the high-stakes civic polls scheduled for early 2026.
