Nagpur Woman Booked for Driving Husband to Suicide

Nagpur: Ambazari police have registered a case against a 32-year-old woman for allegedly driving her husband, a police constable, to commit suicide through mental harassment. The deceased, Shilratna Belekar, 42, was posted at Rana Pratap Nagar police station. He died by suicide on April 22 after jumping into Ambazari Lake.

Initial Investigation

Initially, Ambazari police registered an accidental death case and launched an investigation. Later, Belekar's younger brother filed a complaint alleging that between February 5, 2024, and February 24 this year, the constable's wife Ruchika was involved in an extramarital affair with a teacher. According to the complainant, Ruchika told her husband she no longer wished to live with him and repeatedly demanded his property, money, and divorce.

Harassment and Provocation

The complaint further stated that Ruchika constantly harassed Shilratna with provocative statements, urging him to commit suicide. This relentless pressure pushed Shilratna into depression, the complaint claimed.
