Nashik Police Take Strict Action Against Illegal Manja Sale
In a significant move, the Nashik Road police have registered a serious case against a 33-year-old man from the Sinnar Phata area. The police charged him with attempt to commit culpable homicide under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This action highlights the authorities' firm stance against the sale of banned nylon manja.
Midnight Raid Leads to Seizure of Banned Material
Acting on a tip-off, police officers conducted a raid near Swagat Lawns in Sinnar Phata around 1:40 AM. They discovered that the man possessed manja intended for sale during the upcoming Makar Sankranti festival. During the operation, the police seized 47 reels of the prohibited nylon manja. The total value of the confiscated material is estimated at Rs 23,000.
Police Emphasize Dangers of Nylon Manja
Senior police officers stated that the accused was fully aware of the risks associated with nylon manja. This material poses severe threats to both human and animal life. Despite this knowledge, he continued to carry and sell the banned product. The police have taken a strong position to prevent such activities in the future.
Multiple Sellers Face Legal Action
Authorities revealed that this is not an isolated incident. Several other manja sellers have also been booked under Section 110 of the BNS. This section carries more severe punishment compared to previous laws. The aim is to create a strong deterrent against the sale of dangerous manja.
Preventive Measures Include Externment Orders
In addition to the legal cases, the police have implemented preventive measures. They have externed nearly 150 individuals who had prior cases related to manja registered against them. These externment orders are effective for 15 days, lasting until January 15. This step is part of a broader strategy to curb illegal activities during the festival season.
The police action underscores their commitment to public safety and strict enforcement of laws against hazardous materials.
