The final arguments in the Nasrapur rape and murder case concluded on Saturday after an extensive hearing lasting nearly five hours, with the court reserving the matter for judgment on June 25. The proceedings began at 11am and continued until around 4pm.
Prosecution's Detailed Submission
Special public prosecutor Ajay Misar advanced detailed submissions on behalf of the state, relying on CCTV footage, DNA profiling, medical evidence, forensic reports, and witness testimonies to argue that the prosecution had established a complete chain of circumstances against the accused. Misar submitted that six CCTV footages form a crucial part of the evidence.
Referring to timestamps in the footage, Misar argued that the victim was allegedly seen being taken towards the scene of the offence at around 3.12pm, while the accused was later captured returning alone at approximately 3.51pm. The prosecution contended that the material on record, including medical and forensic evidence, corroborated its version of events during that period.
Supporting Documents and Witnesses
During the arguments, the prosecution placed before the court several supporting documents and analytical charts, including a comprehensive timeline chart, medical evidence analysis, forensic data chart, DNA profiling matrix, and a connectivity chart. Detailed written notes of arguments, supported by relevant judicial precedents and landmark Supreme Court judgments, were also submitted.
Misar further relied on statements of key witnesses, including a child witness, as well as spot panchanamas, identification proceedings, seized articles, and chemical analysis reports. The prosecution maintained that the chain of custody of the evidence remained intact throughout the investigation and trial.
Defense Arguments and Next Steps
The defense also concluded its arguments on Saturday, challenging the prosecution's case and seeking to raise doubts regarding the evidence relied upon by the state. With arguments from both sides now complete, the court has reserved the matter for judgment. The verdict is scheduled to be pronounced on June 25, bringing the trial into its final stage after weeks of evidence and arguments.
