NEET-UG Re-exam: Mock Drills, 3,000 Police Deployed in Hyderabad

On the eve of the NEET-UG re-examination, authorities in Hyderabad conducted mock drills on Saturday to assess preparedness and prevent malpractice. The exam is scheduled for Sunday between 2 pm and 5 pm in pen-and-paper format, with candidates required to report to centres well in advance.

Elaborate Security Arrangements at 52 Centres

In Hyderabad, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place at 52 examination centres under the Hyderabad police commissionerate limits. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Secunderabad zone, Rakshita Krishnamurthy stated, “Each examination centre will be provided with six police personnel, including a sub-inspector, with a dedicated woman component as well.” She added that test runs were conducted on Saturday morning, and police personnel would remain stationed at centres even during night hours as part of the security arrangements.

Advanced Security Measures

Officials told TOI that metal detectors have been installed at examination centres, and question papers would be transported under armed escort. Patrol vehicles and Blue Colts teams would conduct regular checks around centres to prevent any untoward incidents. Around 3,000 police personnel have been deployed across city limits to clear traffic jams near exam centres, according to additional traffic DCP, Hyderabad, Avinash Kumar.

Restrictions in Neighbouring Areas

Security measures have also been tightened in neighbouring commissionerates. Cyberabad police on Friday issued an order barring the assembly of five or more persons within a 200-metre radius of examination centres between 6 am and 6 pm on Sunday. Photocopy and internet centres located near examination venues have also been directed to remain closed during the examination period.

Context of Heightened Security

These heightened security measures come in light of the recent paper leak of the national-level entrance examination. The authorities are taking no chances to ensure a fair and secure conduct of the re-examination.
