NIA Files Chargesheet in Ambala Police Station IED Blast Case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formally charged eight individuals, including Pakistani gangster-turned-terrorist Shehzad Bhatti, in connection with the IED car bomb blast that occurred in the parking area of Ambala's Baldev Nagar police station in January 2026. The chargesheet was filed before a special NIA court in Panchkula, Haryana, under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, the Explosive Substances Act 1908, and the Telecommunication Act 2023.
Key Accused and Their Roles
Besides Bhatti, who is wanted in several other terrorist cases, the chargesheet names seven arrested Indian nationals: Karamjit Singh alias Tony, Akash, Soureb alias Sobi alias Sourab, Raman Kumar, Satyam, Sukhdev Singh alias Sukha, and Amarjeet Singh alias Ambi. According to NIA findings, Bhatti had established operational modules in India and assigned local operatives to arrange logistics and explosive materials for carrying out attacks on police establishments.
Akash was identified as Bhatti's principal India-based operative, responsible for coordinating the attacks with co-accused. The Baldev Nagar police station was targeted after reconnaissance of potential targets, the NIA investigation revealed.
Execution of the Attack
Some of the accused parked a car packed with gas cylinders and explosive substances in the police station premises. They videographed the scene for dissemination and publicity. The NIA investigation further revealed that Bhatti recruited and radicalized the accused through social media platforms and encrypted communication channels. Digital, electronic, documentary, and forensic evidence established that the accused remained in touch with Bhatti during the planned attack.
Ongoing Investigation
The NIA continues its investigation into the case, uncovering a chain of recruitment, financing, operational coordination, procurement of explosive substances, and execution of the terrorist act under Bhatti's directions. The agency aims to dismantle the entire network involved in the conspiracy.
