A young e-rickshaw driver lost his life on Wednesday after fighting severe injuries for eight days, following a brutal hit-and-run accident in Noida. The victim, 27-year-old Harsh Pratap Singh, was waiting for passengers when a speeding car rammed into his vehicle.
The Fateful Day Near Emco Tower
The incident occurred on December 30 near Emco Tower. According to police reports, Singh was stationary, awaiting passengers, when a car moving at high speed crashed into his e-rickshaw. The impact was so severe that the three-wheeler was completely damaged. Bystanders rushed the critically injured driver to the district hospital in Sector 39.
A Desperate Fight for Life
Doctors at the Noida hospital assessed Singh's condition as critical. Realizing the gravity of his injuries, his family made the difficult decision to shift him to a medical college in Lucknow for advanced treatment. For over a week, Singh battled for his life in the government hospital. Despite all efforts, he could not survive and passed away on Wednesday, marking a tragic end to the eight-day struggle.
Police Investigation and Family's Anguish
Following the death, police have registered a formal case against an unknown car driver for rash and negligent driving resulting in death. The complaint was filed by the victim's brother, Udaybhan Singh. Harsh Pratap Singh, who hailed from Nithari village and lived in a rented accommodation, was the sole breadwinner for his family.
Officers are now piecing together evidence to identify the fleeing vehicle. Technical evidence, including the vehicle's registration number and CCTV footage from nearby areas, is being scanned. A manhunt is underway to bring the responsible driver to justice.
This tragic event highlights the perennial dangers faced by commuters and drivers on Indian roads, especially those in vulnerable vehicles like e-rickshaws. It also underscores the consequences of hit-and-run incidents that leave families devastated and seeking answers.
