A tragic incident in Noida has resulted in the death of an 18-year-old woman, allegedly after she consumed abortion pills provided by her cousin, with whom she was in a relationship. The local police have arrested the accused, a 25-year-old man, under relevant sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Details of the Tragic Incident and Police Case
The victim's father filed a formal complaint with the police, stating that his nephew was involved in a physical relationship with his daughter. When the young woman became pregnant, the accused cousin reportedly gave her medication to terminate the pregnancy. Following this, her health began to decline severely.
She was admitted to the district hospital in Noida on December 18. As her condition failed to improve, she was referred to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed on December 23.
Police Investigation and Findings
A senior police officer confirmed that a case has been registered under Section 90(1) of the BNS, which pertains to death caused by an act done with the intent to cause miscarriage. The accused has been taken into custody.
Police enquiries revealed that the young woman had been unwell for an extended period. The investigation points to anaemia as the cause of death. Officers also noted that the accused had been living away from home for several months and had returned only recently.
Family Dispute and Aftermath
Adding a layer of complexity to the case, police officials mentioned a pre-existing financial dispute between the complainant and his brother, who is the father of the accused. This context forms part of the broader investigation into the circumstances leading to the young woman's death.
The case highlights severe legal and social issues, leading to a young life being cut short. The police continue their probe to establish a complete sequence of events.
