Odisha Migrant Worker Faces Brutal Attack After Fleeing Brick Kiln in Andhra Pradesh
A migrant labourer from Odisha endured a horrific ordeal in Andhra Pradesh. The fifty-year-old man faced abduction, electric shocks and being set on fire. This happened after he tried to escape from a brick kiln where he worked.
Victim Details the Harrowing Incident in Police Complaint
Bidhyadhar Majhi filed a formal complaint at Khariar police station on Friday. He comes from Junapani Khaliabhatta village in Nuapada district. Majhi had just received discharge from hospital before approaching the police.
The victim provided a detailed account of events in his complaint. He stated that he traveled to Andhra Pradesh three months ago with his son Ajay and several other villagers. They went to work at a brick kiln owned by A R Madhav in the Alanam area.
A local middleman named Hitesh Kumar arranged their employment. Kumar provided advance payments to the workers. Majhi's son returned home to Odisha after working at the kiln for some time. Later, Majhi himself decided to leave the worksite and return home.
Violent Confrontation at Railway Station
Majhi boarded a train heading toward his home in Odisha. However, agents working for the brick kiln owner tracked him down. They found him at a railway station near Srikakulam on December 20 last year.
When the agents approached, Majhi attempted to flee from them. They caught him and dragged him to a nearby transformer. There, they subjected him to electric shocks. The assailants then escalated their violence further.
They poured a flammable substance over Majhi's body. Then they deliberately set him on fire. Railway police officers intervened at this critical moment. They rescued Majhi from his attackers and rushed him to a government hospital in Srikakulam.
Medical Treatment and Police Investigation
Majhi received initial treatment at the Srikakulam hospital. His family members later transferred him to Nuapada district headquarters hospital on December 23. This move brought him closer to his home for continued care.
After recovering sufficiently, Majhi filed his police complaint. D K Sahu serves as the in-charge of Khariar police station. He confirmed receiving the complaint and initiating an inquiry.
"We received the complaint and begun an inquiry," Sahu stated. "After our probe, further action will be taken." The police official emphasized that investigation procedures are now underway.
This case highlights the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers across state lines. It raises serious questions about labor practices and worker protection mechanisms in certain industries.
