In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the police have arrested a man with 500 grams of opium in a village in Kapurthala district. The accused was apprehended during a routine patrol near the village outskirts on Tuesday evening.
Details of the Arrest
The Kapurthala police team, led by Sub-Inspector Gurpreet Singh, was on patrol duty when they noticed a suspicious person trying to evade them. Upon searching him, the police recovered 500 grams of opium from his possession. The accused has been identified as Jaswinder Singh, a resident of the same village.
Legal Action
A case has been registered against Jaswinder Singh under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the local police station. The police are interrogating him to ascertain the source of the contraband and his network. Further investigations are underway to trace the supply chain.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kapurthala, Harcharan Singh Bhullar, commended the team for their swift action. He reiterated the police department's commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the district and urged the public to cooperate by providing information about any illegal activities.
This seizure is part of a series of anti-drug operations conducted by the Punjab Police across the state. The police have intensified patrolling and checking at vulnerable points to curb the flow of narcotics.
