Pakistani Gangster's Video Escalates Outrage Over Gurdaspur Police Murders
A chilling video allegedly shared by a Pakistani gangster on Monday has amplified the public fury and horror following the brutal killing of two policemen inside a border outpost in Punjab's Gurdaspur district. The incident, which occurred late Saturday night just one kilometer from the Pakistan border, has left the community in shock and demands for justice mounting.
Details of the Attack and Aftermath
No arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurnam Singh and homeguard Ashok Kumar. In response, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid heartfelt tributes to the slain officers and announced substantial financial support for their families. Each bereaved family will receive Rs 1 crore in financial assistance along with an additional insurance payout of ₹1 crore.
Ashok Kumar was cremated with full state honors at his native village, Kailashpur, in Gurdaspur on Monday. In a poignant twist, his daughter Mamta Sharma is set to graduate from the police force in just two days, a ceremony her father would have proudly attended. The cremation of Gurnam Singh is scheduled for Tuesday, as the community mourns these devastating losses.
Social Media Turmoil and Gangster Involvement
The killings have sparked widespread anger in a region where many families have members serving in uniform. Adding to the confusion, the little-known terror group Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan (TTH) claimed responsibility for the murders on Sunday. By Monday, the situation grew murkier as gangsters from both Pakistan and India entered the fray.
Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti posted an alleged video of the incident on Instagram, accompanied by an audio message criticizing the Indian government. His motives remain unclear, but this move prompted a swift counterattack from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The social media page of 'Hari Boxer Tyson Bishnoi', featuring a photograph of Lawrence Bishnoi, issued a statement: "The terrorists who took the lives of two brave sons of India will face consequences. Those supporting such elements while calling themselves gangsters should know that the Lawrence Bishnoi Group will ensure they are held accountable." The post also paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the two police personnel.
Investigation and Security Measures
According to sources, police suspect that the social media posts by TTH and the Pakistani gangster may be attempts to divert attention from the real perpetrators. Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the identity or motive of the killers. Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya provided a brief update, stating, "We are working on it." On Sunday, CCTV footage purportedly showing two suspects fleeing on a motorcycle circulated on social media, adding to the investigative leads.
In response to the incident, security has been tightened in adjoining districts. An alert has been issued in Amritsar, with SSP-rural Suhail Qasim Mir confirming that special checkpoints have been established and surveillance intensified to prevent further threats.
Political Reactions and Calls for Action
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed his condolences, saying, "Punjab stands firmly with the families of the martyrs, whose courage and sacrifice will continue to inspire every citizen." Similarly, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav posted a tribute on X, acknowledging the bravery of ASI Gurnam Singh and PHG Ashok Kumar and affirming Punjab Police's support for their families.
Condemning the killings, Congress MP from Gurdaspur and former deputy chief minister of Punjab, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In his letter, Randhawa demanded that the murders be investigated as a terrorist incident, citing it as a failure of paramilitary and Punjab Police forces. He urged Shah to convene an urgent meeting of all security agencies to address the escalating security concerns.
