Accused in Patna Businessman Shooting Injured in Police Encounter

An accused involved in a firing incident targeting a businessman faced police action in Patna district. The encounter occurred late Thursday night in the Maner police station area. Police shot the accused in the leg during the operation.

Details of the Encounter

Officials identified the accused as Nitish Kumar. Police took him into custody immediately after the encounter. They rushed him to PMCH for medical treatment. Nitish had been absconding for about a week. He was wanted in connection with a case where a businessman suffered a gunshot wound.

Maner police and the Special Task Force received specific intelligence. They learned about Nitish's presence in Ratan Tola. The team quickly reached the location and cordoned off the area. Upon seeing the STF personnel, Nitish opened fire. Police retaliated in self-defense. Their return fire hit Nitish in his left leg. He fell to the ground, enabling his arrest.

Background of the Case

The incident traces back to January 9. Nitish and two associates planned a robbery that evening. Their target was Sanjay Soni, a resident of Rasulpur village in Maner. Sanjay owns a jewellery shop in the area. He was returning home on his bike around 7 pm when the accused stopped him.

Nitish and his associates confronted Sanjay at gunpoint. They attempted to loot him, but Sanjay resisted bravely. In response, Nitish fired a shot that struck Sanjay's shoulder. The robbery attempt failed due to Sanjay's resistance. CCTV cameras in the vicinity captured the entire incident on video.

Police Investigation and Recovery

City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh provided insights into the investigation. Police examined the CCTV footage from the January 9 shooting. They successfully identified Nitish from the video evidence. After his identification, Nitish kept changing his hideouts frequently to evade capture.

Police eventually received information about his location in Ratan Tola. They confronted him at the spot, leading to an exchange of fire. Apart from the country-made pistol used during the shooting, police made a significant recovery. They seized one pistol and two cartridges from Nitish after his arrest.

This encounter marked the second such operation for Patna Police and the STF in January. The first encounter occurred earlier in the month, demonstrating ongoing police efforts against criminal activities in the region.
