Patna Civil Court Faces Third Bomb Threat in a Week, Sparking Panic and Halting Judicial Work

In a concerning development, the Patna civil court was targeted with yet another bomb threat on Thursday, marking the third such incident within a single week and the second within just 24 hours. This alarming pattern has triggered fresh waves of panic among legal professionals and visitors, leading to a complete halt in judicial activities and exacerbating the growing frustration within the legal community.

Immediate Evacuation and Multi-Agency Search Launched

Official sources have confirmed that around 1 a.m., the District and Sessions Judge’s office received an email claiming that RDX, a high-explosive material, had been planted on the court premises. In response to this bomb threat notification, the administration and police authorities acted swiftly. Judges, advocates, visitors, and court staff were immediately evacuated as a precautionary measure, and all judicial proceedings were suspended without delay.

Simultaneously, a comprehensive search operation was initiated, involving the police, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and a specialized dog squad. The teams meticulously combed through the premises to ensure no threats were present. Town DSP Rajesh Ranjan stated that, as a safety precaution, the court was temporarily closed during the search to protect everyone involved, including judges, lawyers, staff, and visitors.

No Suspicious Items Found, Investigation Underway

Despite the thorough search, nothing suspicious was discovered by the multiple agencies involved. DSP Ranjan emphasized that an FIR has been registered, and the investigation is actively progressing. He revealed that all five bomb threat emails received since January 2026 originated from the Outlook email service. Authorities are currently working to trace the sender and identify those behind these threats.

In addition, raids are being conducted based on inputs from previous cases, although no arrests have been made so far. This ongoing effort highlights the seriousness with which law enforcement is treating these repeated incidents.

Legal Community Expresses Agitation and Concern

The repeated bomb threats have left the legal community deeply concerned and agitated. Advocate Anshuman Singh voiced the collective frustration, stating, “This is concerning. It is happening repeatedly. Lawyers are agitated. No work is being done. We woke up this morning and learned about the threat. The court is currently closed. We want the High Court to take cognizance of the series of bomb threat incidents.”

This sentiment reflects the broader impact on judicial efficiency and the mental well-being of those who rely on the court for their daily work and legal matters.

Previous Incidents Add to the Growing Tension

Just a day earlier, on February 11, three civil courts in Patna, Danapur, and Kishanganj had also received bomb threats. The email in that case contained a chilling message: “At exactly 1 p.m., five bombs will explode in your court premises. Long live Pakistan and Kanimozhi!” This pattern of threats, often with provocative content, underscores the need for heightened security measures and a robust investigative response.

The cumulative effect of these incidents is not only disrupting the judicial process but also raising serious questions about the safety and security of public institutions in the region.
