Patna Man Murders Maternal Uncle in Broad Daylight, Captured on CCTV
In a shocking incident in Patna City, a 26-year-old man brutally stabbed his maternal uncle to death in broad daylight near the Bengali Colony turn on Thursday morning. The victim, identified as Mohammad Raees, aged 62 and a tailor from Bakshi Maidan, was attacked by his nephew, Mohammad Ayaz. The assailant slit Raees's neck and stabbed him multiple times before walking away calmly, as captured in chilling CCTV footage.
Details of the Attack and Police Response
The incident occurred around 10:45 am when Raees was walking towards his shop at Vivekananda Colony, under the jurisdiction of the Chowk police station area. CCTV footage reveals that the two were walking together for barely 17 steps before Ayaz suddenly drew a sharp knife and struck Raees in the neck. As the victim collapsed near a roadside pole, several people passed by, but no one intervened to stop the attacker or assist the dying man.
After committing the murder, Ayaz was seen casually adjusting his hair, wiping blood off the knife, and walking away as onlookers watched. Police from the Chowk station reached the spot soon after receiving a call around 11 am about a body lying on the road. The area was immediately cordoned off, and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called in to collect evidence. The body was subsequently sent to NMCH-Patna for a post-mortem examination.
Arrest and Confession
The accused, Mohammad Ayaz, was arrested within two hours of the incident, and the murder weapon was recovered from his possession. Confirming the details, Patna City SDPO II, Gaurav Kumar, stated, "During interrogation, Ayaz confessed to the crime, claiming it stemmed from an old family dispute. He alleged that his wife was harassed and tortured by her maternal uncle’s family, and he committed the murder in revenge."
This brutal act highlights the severe consequences of unresolved family conflicts and raises questions about public safety and bystander intervention in such violent situations.
