Patna Police Nab Three in Elaborate Rs 20 Crore Gold Robbery
In a significant breakthrough, Patna police on Friday arrested three key members of a sophisticated criminal gang responsible for orchestrating a massive gold robbery valued at approximately Rs 20 crore. The audacious crime involved the accused impersonating customs officers to deceive employees of a prominent Gujarat-based jewellery firm.
Details of the Daring Daylight Heist
The meticulously planned robbery unfolded when two employees of the jewellery company were traveling in an autorickshaw from Danapur to Bakerganj. According to police reports, the gang members, dressed in crisp white shirts and khaki pants to mimic official customs attire, intercepted the vehicle near the Khagaul overbridge.
Posing as customs officials, the accused demanded inspection of the employees' belongings under the guise of routine customs procedures. They subsequently seized three bags containing a substantial quantity of gold before making a swift escape from the scene.
Police Investigation and Recoveries
Following intensive investigation efforts, police apprehended the three accused individuals from the Mehandiganj area of Patna. The arrested suspects have been identified as Amarnath alias Gopi, Aditya Giri alias Soni, and Sanjay Kumar.
During the arrests, authorities recovered significant evidence including 5.4 grams of gold, nine live bullets, and Rs 1.97 lakh in cash from the possession of the accused. These recoveries have provided crucial leads in the ongoing investigation.
Mastermind and Gang Operations Revealed
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma provided detailed insights into the gang's operations during a press briefing. "The mastermind behind this elaborate robbery is Amarnath, who meticulously planned every aspect of the crime," Sharma revealed.
The SSP further explained that another gang member named Guddu arranged the getaway vehicle used in the robbery. After executing the heist, the perpetrators initially fled to Naubatpur before eventually escaping via train to avoid detection.
Long-Term Surveillance and Modus Operandi
In a startling revelation, police disclosed that the criminal gang had been tracking the movements of the jewellery firm employees for nearly 18 months prior to executing the robbery. This extended surveillance period allowed them to study patterns and identify the optimal opportunity for their criminal operation.
SSP Sharma added another intriguing detail about the gang's preparation: "The accused learned the techniques for impersonating customs officers by watching instructional videos on social media platforms." This modern approach to criminal education highlights how technology is being misused for illicit activities.
Ongoing Investigation and Manhunt
Police authorities have confirmed that approximately eight individuals were involved in the planning and execution of this high-value robbery. While three have been apprehended, intensive raids are currently underway across multiple states to locate and arrest the remaining accomplices.
The investigation continues to unfold as authorities piece together the complete network involved in this sophisticated criminal operation that targeted precious metals worth crores of rupees.
