A 17-year-old student, Shruti Kumari, was found hanging in her hostel room in Patna's Patrakar Nagar police station area on Tuesday. Police confirmed that no suicide note was discovered at the scene.
Friend's Account Raises Questions
One of Shruti's friends and a fellow hostel resident, Anshu, claimed that Shruti had been upset over issues involving her boyfriend. According to Anshu, Shruti was last seen crying while talking to a boy on the phone. She complained that he was not talking to her. Anshu advised her not to do anything wrong and suggested she go home. Shruti never revealed the boy's name, Anshu added.
Hostel Owner's Statement
Hostel owner Abha Singh said Shruti had dinner on Monday night and then went to her room. She had earlier completed her NEET coaching and returned to her village but came back to the hostel 10 days ago. Singh described Shruti as very quiet by nature.
Anshu, who stays in an adjacent room, said Shruti was not seen on Tuesday morning. When she knocked on the door, there was no response. The door opened when pushed, and Shruti was found hanging inside.
Family's Allegations
Shruti's maternal uncle, Amarendra Kumar Karan, said he learned about the death on Tuesday morning. He stated that Shruti's mother is a teacher and her father a farmer. After arriving at the hostel, he learned that a boy had been harassing her for a long time, leading to depression. Police have not yet verified this claim.
Police Investigation Underway
Sadar SDPO-1 Abhinav said Patrakar Nagar police received information about the death around 9:30 am. Officers inspected the hostel room and seized the girl's ID card, notes, and mobile phone. No suicide note was found.
Shruti passed her Class XII examinations this year and was preparing for competitive exams. Police are investigating the case from all angles. Some additional information has come to light but cannot be shared at this stage, the SDPO added.
