Pilibhit Car Fire Erupts from Illegal LPG Refill, Destroys Adjacent House
A dangerous incident unfolded in Pilibhit district late Tuesday when an Eeco car caught fire after its owner allegedly attempted to illegally refill the vehicle's gas tank using a domestic LPG cylinder. The event occurred in Jatipur village, highlighting severe safety violations.
Blaze Spreads Rapidly, Consumes Thatched House
The fire quickly escalated, spreading from the car to an adjacent thatched house. The intense flames reduced the household structure and all belongings inside to ashes, causing significant property damage. Eyewitnesses reported a chaotic scene as the blaze engulfed the area.
Police Intervention Prevents Catastrophic Explosion
Police responded promptly on Wednesday, deploying fire tenders to the site. Their swift action was crucial in preventing a potential explosion from both the LPG cylinder and the car's unauthorized gas tank. Authorities noted that the tank had been installed in an illegal manner, compounding the risks.
Legal Actions and Investigations Underway
Brijveer Singh, SHO of Gajraula police station, stated that the matter has been referred to the district magistrate for permission to lodge an FIR. This step is necessary due to violations of the Essential Commodities Act and the Explosive Rules. The LPG cylinder involved has been seized and placed in the custody of a licensed dealer in nearby Khag Sarai, pending further court orders.
In addition, police are actively working to identify the car technician responsible for fitting the illegal gas tank. This investigation aims to hold all parties accountable and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Safety Concerns and Public Awareness
This incident underscores the critical importance of adhering to safety regulations when modifying vehicles or handling flammable materials like LPG. Illegal refills and unauthorized installations pose severe threats to public safety, as demonstrated by the destruction in Pilibhit.
Authorities urge residents to avoid such practices and report any suspicious activities to prevent tragedies. The case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of neglecting legal and safety protocols.
