Panchkula police are facing significant challenges in their investigation into the hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of retired Lieutenant General K S Mann, as the offending vehicle remains untraced three days after the fatal incident.
Absence of CCTV Footage Hinders Investigation
The core obstacle in the probe is the reported absence of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the exact location where the 83-year-old former Army officer was struck. The accident occurred on Friday evening, and the retired Lt Gen, who sustained critical injuries, later passed away at the Command Hospital in Chandimandir on Saturday.
Police officials confirmed that the lack of direct visual evidence from the accident site has severely hampered their efforts. "We are scanning footage from cameras installed in the surrounding areas in the hope of tracking the movement of the suspected vehicle," stated Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder Singh, the officiating Station House Officer of the Mansa Devi Complex police station.
Details of the Victim and Family
Lieutenant General K S Mann, a respected senior officer, is survived by his wife and two sons. One son is a serving Colonel in the Indian Army, while the other is an officer with the Canadian Police. The retired General was also the brother of the late Brigadier Sukhi Mann, a celebrated officer of the Parachute Regiment.
As of now, the postmortem examination has not been conducted. Authorities are awaiting the arrival of General Mann's son from the United States. The procedure will be carried out once the family completes the necessary formalities.

With the investigation stalled due to the lack of direct evidence, the Panchkula police have made a public appeal for assistance. They are urging anyone with information related to the accident to come forward. This includes potential eyewitness accounts or any dashcam footage that might have captured the vehicle or the incident.
The police hope that public cooperation will provide the crucial lead needed to identify the vehicle and bring the accused driver to justice. Despite sustained efforts since the weekend, neither the driver nor the vehicle involved has been identified.
