Prayagraj Woman and Infant Daughter Die in Well Tragedy
A tragic incident unfolded in Prayagraj late Thursday night. A 24-year-old woman named Sonam and her four-month-old daughter died after jumping into a well. The event occurred in Bargauna Khurd village, located in the trans Yamuna area of the district.
Bodies Discovered on Friday Morning
Local residents found the bodies floating in the well on Friday morning. The well is situated near the woman's house. Police officials confirmed the discovery and initiated an immediate investigation.
Family Alleges Dowry Pressure
DCP Vivek Chandra Yadav of Yamuna Nagar provided details to the media. He stated that the woman's family members have accused her husband and in-laws of mounting pressure for dowry. This allegation forms a central part of the ongoing police inquiry.
The woman had recently returned to her husband's home. She visited her parents in Ghupur on Thursday. Later that evening, she engaged in a heated argument with her husband, Shivbabu. The altercation reportedly centered on domestic and monetary issues.
Police Investigation Points to Suicide
Preliminary findings from the police suggest this is a case of suicide. Officers cited prima facie and circumstantial evidence supporting this conclusion. However, the investigation remains active and thorough.
Investigators uncovered additional background information. Sonam was first married to a man named Gyanchandra in 2021. After Gyanchandra's death in 2023, she married Shivbabu, who is Gyanchandra's younger brother. This familial connection is being examined as part of the probe.
Authorities Promise Action
Police officials emphasized their commitment to a complete investigation. They assured that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings. The community remains shocked by this devastating loss of two lives.
