Stolen Passport and Cancelled Bali Trip: Key Evidence in Pune Murder Case
New details have emerged in the murder of Pune-based businessman Ketan Agarwal, revealing a premeditated conspiracy involving his associate Siya Goyal. According to police sources, Goyal allegedly stole Agarwal's passport and cancelled a planned trip to Bali, which was intended to be a getaway. The cancellation is now seen as a deliberate move to keep Agarwal in India and facilitate the murder plot.
Previous Attempt on Life Uncovered
Investigators have also discovered that Goyal had made a prior attempt on Agarwal's life. In one instance, she allegedly tried to poison him, but the plan failed. This earlier attempt, along with the passport theft and trip cancellation, points to a calculated and persistent effort to eliminate Agarwal. The motive appears to be financial gain, as Agarwal had recently come into a substantial inheritance.
The Murder at Lohadgad Fort
Agarwal was found dead near Lohadgad Fort in Pune district on June 24, 2026. Initial reports suggested a possible accident, but post-mortem results indicated strangulation. Goyal was arrested shortly after, and her involvement was confirmed through digital evidence and witness testimonies. Police have recovered Agarwal's passport from Goyal's possession, further strengthening the case.
Siya Goyal's Arrest and Confession
During interrogation, Goyal reportedly confessed to the murder and detailed the conspiracy. She admitted to stealing the passport to prevent Agarwal from traveling abroad, as she feared he would discover her financial misdeeds. The cancelled Bali trip was a ruse to gain his trust. Goyal also revealed that she had attempted to poison Agarwal weeks earlier but failed when he fell ill and recovered.
Financial Motive and Inheritance Dispute
Agarwal had recently inherited a significant amount of property and money from his late father. Goyal, who was a close friend and business partner, allegedly sought to gain control of these assets. Police are investigating whether she had forged documents to transfer ownership. The case has shocked the local business community, as Agarwal was well-respected and known for his philanthropic work.
Legal Proceedings and Next Steps
Goyal has been remanded in police custody until July 5, 2026. The prosecution plans to charge her with murder, attempted murder, theft, and conspiracy. The defense has argued that the evidence is circumstantial and that Goyal is being framed. The next hearing is scheduled for July 10, where the court will consider the police's request for further custody.
