Pune Police Deploy Extensive Bandobast for NEET Re-exam
The Pune city police have implemented a comprehensive security plan, including extensive bandobast and multiple surveillance measures, to ensure a smooth and incident-free National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) re-examination scheduled for Sunday. According to police estimates, more than 21,000 aspirants will appear for the re-examination at centers across Pune city, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Pune Rural.

Security Deployment Details

Amitesh Kumar, Pune police commissioner, told TOI, “We have deployed a strong bandobast at the examination centres. We will also use several surveillance measures to prevent any untoward incident during the NEET re-examination.” The city has 34 examination centres, and security arrangements were reviewed for all of them on Saturday. Prashant Amrutkar, deputy commissioner of police (special branch), stated, “We have deployed six police personnel for every 240 candidates appearing in the re-exam.”

Verification and Surveillance Measures

“The verification and frisking will be done by the police personnel on duty. In addition, the entire examination process will be videotaped. We will use CCTV cameras and other electronic surveillance systems to prevent any untoward incident in and around the centres,” he added. These measures are aimed at preventing cheating, impersonation, or any other illegal activities during the high-stakes exam.

Background of Security Concerns

The extensive police deployment comes in the wake of a major paper leak case involving the NEET 2026 examination. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in May arrested several individuals for their alleged connection with the leak. Among those arrested were Latur-based paediatrician Dr. Manoj Shirure, Pune-based physics faculty member Tejas Harshadkumar Shah, junior college teachers Manisha Havaldar and Manisha Mandhare, beauty parlour owner Manisha Waghmare, and prominent coaching institute owner Shivraj Motegaonkar.

Impact on Candidates and Centers

The enhanced security measures are expected to reassure candidates and parents about the integrity of the examination process. With over 21,000 aspirants taking the re-exam, the police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the event proceeds without any disruptions. The use of CCTV cameras and videography will provide additional layers of monitoring, deterring potential malpractices.
