Police investigating the murder of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal have uncovered that the victim had repeatedly expressed suspicion to his family that his fiancee, Siya Goyal, was in a relationship with another man. According to officials, Ketan specifically asked his relatives whether they had thoroughly checked her background before the marriage was fixed.
Victim Voiced Concerns About Fiancee's Behavior
Ketan Agarwal, 28, was allegedly pushed to his death from a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune district on June 18 by his 20-year-old fiancee Siya Goyal and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary, 22. The couple were scheduled to marry in November this year. Both accused have been arrested and remanded in police custody until July 3.
A police official stated that Ketan's father, Vishal Agarwal, mentioned in his complaint that his son had repeatedly voiced concerns about Siya's closeness to co-accused Chetan Chaudhary. Ketan told his family that Siya often mentioned Chaudhary's name during their conversations.
Pre-Wedding Trip Sabotaged
According to police, Siya had earlier sabotaged their planned pre-wedding trip to Bali, Indonesia. After the trip was cancelled on June 6, Ketan approached his father and complained that Siya was picking fights over small issues. His father reassured him, suggesting that her behavior might be due to her young age and that they would counsel her.
On June 14, just four days before the murder, Siya and Ketan had visited the same spot at Lohagad Fort. Police allege that on that occasion, Siya attempted to push Ketan off the cliff, but he managed to hold on to a bush. When Ketan questioned why she had pushed him, she raised a false alarm about a snake and tried to make it appear that she had protected him.
Family Dismissed Suspicions
After returning from Lohagad Fort on June 14, Ketan once again asked his father whether they had conducted a thorough inquiry about Siya before fixing the marriage. He pointed out that her phone was often busy when he called and that she frequently mentioned Chaudhary during their conversations. Ketan expressed suspicion that Siya was having an affair with someone. However, his family reassured him that there was probably nothing to worry about, as her family was related to theirs.
According to police, the matchmaking of Ketan and Siya had been arranged through a common relative of both families. The engagement took place in February this year at a plush hotel in Pune.
