In a startling revelation from Pune, a 29-year-old housewife has been found to have fabricated a robbery complaint involving Rs 11 lakh after allegedly losing the money to a black magic practitioner in Rajasthan. The Koregaon Park police, who were investigating the reported theft from Tuesday, uncovered the truth following a meticulous probe that included scrutinizing CCTV footage and recreating the alleged crime scene.
Police Investigation Uncovers the Truth
A team led by senior inspector Vijayraj Doke and sub-inspector Shrikant Chavan of the Koregaon Park police station, with support from the crime branch, spearheaded the inquiry. The woman had claimed that two unidentified men entered her flat while she was alone and robbed her of the substantial cash sum. However, a review of security camera recordings from the housing society and surrounding areas showed no evidence of such suspicious activity or individuals matching her description.
This lack of evidence prompted the police to conduct a detailed reconstruction of the event sequence described by the complainant. Under sustained questioning that same night, the woman eventually broke down and confessed to filing a misleading police report. She narrated the actual chain of events that led her to take this drastic step.
The Desperate Ploy Behind the False Complaint
According to the police, the woman's troubles began after her marriage when she faced difficulties conceiving. Through a family member, she came into contact with a black magic practitioner based in Rajasthan. The practitioner prescribed certain rituals and remedies, and about two years ago, she gave birth to a baby girl.
Despite this, the demands for money from the practitioner did not stop. To continue making payments, the woman was compelled to sell her jewellery and other personal valuables. After exhausting these assets, she found herself in a precarious position, unable to explain the disappearance of her possessions and the outflow of money to her family, who run a grocery shop in Koregaon Park and live together in the flat with seven relatives.
Stress Leads to a Staged Crime
"She was under immense stress and did not know how to inform her family about the missing jewellery and valuables. She then came up with the idea of staging a robbery," explained a police officer involved in the case. The false report was thus a desperate attempt to conceal the substantial financial losses incurred over time due to the ongoing demands of the black magic practitioner.
The case highlights a tragic situation where personal desperation led to the filing of a false First Information Report (FIR), which is a serious offence. The police have now registered the matter under appropriate sections for misleading the authorities, and further legal action is being considered.
