A 19-year-old youth was hacked to death in Ganraj Colony, Thergaon, on Thursday night, just five days after he secured bail in an attempted murder case involving a young woman. The incident has sent shockwaves through the locality, with heavy police deployment to maintain peace.
Attack and Injuries
The youth's cousin, who was with him during the attack, sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital. Police have arrested two relatives of the 19-year-old woman in connection with the murder.
Motivation Behind the Attack
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Kurade, the attack stemmed from a dispute related to the youth allegedly stalking and pressuring the woman for marriage after his release from jail. The woman's family had objected to his behavior. The youth had been arrested about five months ago for allegedly assaulting the woman, who belongs to a different community. After securing bail, he resumed stalking her and pressuring her for marriage. Her mother objected and requested her relatives to intervene.
Sequence of Events
Two of the woman's relatives met the youth and his cousin at Ganraj Colony around 9:30 PM on Thursday. The conversation quickly escalated into a heated argument. Police said the relatives first attacked the duo with a stick, then used a knife and a billhook. The youth died on the spot, while his cousin suffered serious injuries.
Legal Action
A case has been registered at Kalewadi police station under Section 103 (murder) of the BNS, and the two accused have been arrested. Senior Inspector Rajendra Bahirat confirmed that the accused had no prior criminal records. The area saw a heavy police presence following the murder, but the situation remains under control.
