Samra Alleges Maliwal Shared the Video
Jagmandeep Singh, alias Jagman Samra, the Canada-based NRI who shared the controversial video that sparked a political storm in Punjab, has alleged that he received the clip from Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. In a 4.56-second video shared on social media, Samra claimed that Maliwal sent him the video after she was allegedly beaten and humiliated by security staff of Arvind Kejriwal.
Details of the Allegations
Samra stated that the video was shot in a hotel room booked under the name of Jarnail Singh, though details about Jarnail Singh's connection with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann remain unclear. He claimed ignorance about who made or recorded the video or on whose phone it was stored. "They can go and even check my house," Samra asserted, inviting scrutiny.
Samra Counters Mask Claim
In a 47-second video shared by Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Facebook, Samra refuted Mann's claim that a prosthetic mask was used. "Neither has anyone ever brought a mask of CM to me, nor have I made a payment to anyone. If they know anyone, please tell him to come in front of me and say he had delivered it to me. The matter would become clear," Samra said, questioning the need for a fake forensic report.
Political Fallout and Context
Samra also alleged that more controversial videos and a parody of the sacred verse Ardas recited by Mann would be shared. He claimed to have known Mann since childhood and attended his wedding, even giving him a vehicle for shooting. Swati Maliwal is among seven MPs who quit the Aam Aadmi Party and merged with the BJP, according to a letter to the Rajya Sabha Chairman.
Who is Jagman Samra?
Samra is a Canada-based NRI who escaped from police custody in 2022 while undergoing treatment at a hospital after being booked in a Rs 65-lakh cheating case. He was initially lodged in Faridkot Central Jail following a cheating and criminal conspiracy case registered in Ferozepur on November 28, 2020. He escaped on February 1, 2022, by deceiving jail guards and managed to reach Canada.
