In a massive crackdown on organized crime and drug smuggling, the Punjab Police has executed an intensive statewide operation under the 'Gangstran Te Vaar' campaign, yielding significant results over the past 11 days. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, addressing the media in Batala on Friday, revealed that police teams conducted a staggering 12,275 raids across Punjab, leading to the rounding up of 8,671 individuals and the arrest of 3,721 persons.
Comprehensive Police Action and Detentions
During this period, the police force also detained 1,796 individuals for questioning, while 3,154 persons were released after thorough interrogation. DGP Yadav, speaking after chairing a review meeting, asserted that the police are in full action mode, with a firm commitment to leave no gangster or drug smuggler unchecked. He highlighted that the campaign targets not only local criminals but also those operating from abroad, emphasizing that such individuals will be brought back to Punjab to face justice, as has been accomplished in previous cases.
Public Appeal and Anti-Gangster Helpline
Yadav made a heartfelt appeal to the public, particularly the youth, urging them to steer clear of crime and anti-social elements and to channel their energies into positive pursuits. He stressed that there is no place for criminal activities in Punjab's society. To bolster public cooperation, the DGP encouraged citizens to utilize the anti-gangster helpline number 93946-93946, assuring that information shared will be kept confidential and the identity of informants protected. He underscored that with collective public support, anti-social elements can be entirely eradicated from the community.
Motivating the Police Force and Ground-Level Efforts
Following the media briefing, DGP Yadav engaged in an extensive interaction with all station house officers and gazetted officers of the Batala police district. This session focused on motivating the force, enhancing morale, and reinforcing professional dedication. Yadav emphasized the critical role of ground-level officers in maintaining public order, preventing crimes, and dismantling organized criminal networks, highlighting their frontline importance in the ongoing campaign.
