A Rajasthan Police constable posted in Jodhpur Rural was arrested on Friday and sent to judicial custody for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman in Jaipur on the pretext of marriage, officials said.
Details of the Case
The woman, who was a neighbour of the accused in a village, filed an FIR at the Jalupura police station in Jaipur on March 24, a senior police official confirmed.
According to her complaint, she came in contact with the constable during discussions over a proposed marriage alliance. Talks began in November 2025, after which they exchanged contact details and stayed in touch, officials said.
Incident in January 2026
Police said the constable came to Jaipur on leave in January 2026 and allegedly called her to a hotel near Sindhi Camp, where he forced himself on her. When she resisted, he allegedly assured her of marriage and continued meeting her, police added.
The woman alleged that on different occasions, he took her to hotels and raped her. Officials said that when she later pressed him to marry, he refused.
Legal Action
The FIR was registered under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with sexual intercourse by deceitful means. Police recorded her statement and conducted a medical examination.
“He has been sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway,” an official said.
City police said the accused’s identity has been withheld as per norms since he was the woman’s neighbour.
