Background of conviction and previous paroles

Gurmeet Ram Rahim was awarded a 20-year jail sentence by a special CBI court in August 2017 for raping two disciples. Since his conviction, he has been granted parole and furlough on multiple occasions.

This was the second time in 2026 that Gurmeet was granted parole. Earlier in January, he was released on a 40-day parole and participated in the birth anniversary celebrations of Satnam Singh, the second spiritual head of Dera Sacha Sauda, observed annually on January 25 at the Dera headquarters in Sirsa. In August 2025, he was released on a 40-day parole, which he reportedly took to celebrate his birthday.
