Ratlam Dog Dragging Incident Sparks Outrage, Police File FIR
A shocking incident of animal cruelty in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, has triggered widespread condemnation after a video surfaced showing two women dragging a street dog behind their moving scooter. The footage, which went viral on social media, depicts the helpless puppy being pulled along the road while tied with a rope, struggling to free itself as the scooter speeds ahead.
Graphic Video Captures Disturbing Act
In the widely circulated video, the woman riding pillion on the scooter can be seen holding the rope that binds the dog, occasionally glancing back at the injured animal as it is dragged across the pavement. Eyewitnesses present at the scene reportedly shouted at the women to stop their cruel act, but the duo continued riding without halting, leaving the puppy severely injured.
The incident occurred near the upscale Lal Bagh colony area of Ratlam. The video first emerged on the night of March 6 and quickly spread among local residents, igniting anger and demands for immediate action against the perpetrators.
Rescue and Treatment Efforts
Later that same night, local journalists who saw the viral footage launched a search for the injured puppy in Lal Bagh colony. They found the frightened animal sitting in one spot, visibly traumatized and suffering from multiple injuries sustained during the dragging. Concerned residents promptly arranged medical treatment for the dog after noticing its critical condition.
Police Action and FIR Registration
Following a formal complaint filed by journalists, the Industrial Area police station registered a First Information Report (FIR) late on Friday night. Police station in-charge Satyendra Ghanghoria confirmed that the case has been registered against two women identified as Deepika (wife of Nitesh Patidar) and Pooja (wife of Shravan Panchal).
"The investigation is currently underway," stated Ghanghoria, emphasizing that appropriate legal action will be taken against those responsible for the animal cruelty. The case highlights growing concerns about street animal welfare and the need for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws in India.
The incident has reignited discussions about animal rights awareness and the psychological impact of such brutal acts on community safety. Animal welfare organizations have called for stringent punishment under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, while local authorities continue their probe into the matter.
