Delhi Court Grants 10-Day NIA Custody in Red Fort Blast Case
A Delhi court on Thursday sent four individuals accused in the high-profile Red Fort car blast case to 10 days of National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody. The principal district and sessions judge, Anju Bajaj Chandna, delivered the order after the anti-terror agency sought 15 days for interrogation.
Heavy Security and Accused Details
The court premises witnessed heavy security deployment with RAF contingents positioned alongside Delhi Police personnel. Media access was completely restricted during the proceedings, underscoring the sensitive nature of the case.
The four individuals remanded to custody include Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai from Pulwama, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather from Anantnag, and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay from Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir, along with Dr Shaheen Saeed from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.
Background of the November 10 Blast
The case originates from a devastating explosion that occurred on November 10 around 7 pm in a moving Hyundai i20 car. The incident claimed 15 lives and left over two dozen people injured.
The NIA, which took over the investigation from Delhi Police the following day, has forensically established the identity of the deceased driver as Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district who worked as an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University in Faridabad.
Ongoing Investigation and Evidence Collection
According to the anti-terror agency, Amir had traveled to Delhi to facilitate the purchase of the car that was eventually used as a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The NIA has seized another vehicle belonging to Nabi and is currently examining it for potential evidence.
The investigation has progressed significantly with the agency examining 73 witnesses so far, including individuals injured in the blast that shook the national capital. The NIA is working in close coordination with multiple police forces including Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, and other sister agencies.
The agency emphasized it is pursuing multiple leads to uncover the larger conspiracy behind the bombing and identify other individuals involved in the case. The interstate investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the complete picture of the terror plot.
