Robbery gone wrong: Criminal shot by own gang in Deoghar

A shocking incident of a robbery gone wrong was reported from Deoghar district in Jharkhand late Thursday night. A group of criminals, while attempting to loot a goods vehicle, accidentally shot one of their own accomplices. The injured man later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the district sadar hospital.

Details of the Incident

According to police, four miscreants arrived in an SUV bearing a Madhya Pradesh registration number with the intention of looting a goods vehicle that was carrying refrigerators belonging to a soft drink company. The accused intercepted the vehicle and began assaulting the driver while trying to carry out the robbery.

During the commotion, one of the assailants opened fire, but the bullet mistakenly hit his own gang member, leaving him critically injured. Panic-stricken, the other criminals rushed the injured man to Deoghar Sadar Hospital and then fled after abandoning him there.

Victim Identified

The deceased has been identified as Rajan Kumar Lal, a 32-year-old man who was the son of an RTI activist. Police later detained a youth who came to the hospital to see Lal. The goods vehicle driver, Mohammad Manzoor, has also been detained for questioning.

Police said that a search for the other accused is underway. Deoghar Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar stated, We have detained a few individuals pertaining to the incident. He added that the deceased was one among the accomplices who tried to loot a goods vehicle.

Ongoing Investigation

The police are investigating the case from all angles. The SUV used in the crime has been seized, and efforts are on to trace the other suspects. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
