Rohtak Man Alleges Captivity in Myanmar After Rs 10 Lakh Travel Scam

A man from Rohtak has come forward with a harrowing story. He claims a travel agent cheated him out of a huge sum of money. The agent promised to send him to Europe through a special route. Instead, the man ended up held against his will in Myanmar for over a month.

How the Scam Unfolded

The victim, named Ankush, was working in Dubai. A friend from Kaithal who lives in France gave him a contact. This contact was a man named Mahavir from Delhi. Ankush wanted to move to Europe for better opportunities. In December 2024, Mahavir contacted him. He demanded Rs 10 lakh to arrange the journey.

Ankush transferred the money to bank accounts provided by Mahavir. The agent did send him a visa and a ticket to Russia. However, he did not provide a return ticket or any hotel booking. Later, Mahavir suggested a cheaper plan. He told Ankush to travel via Bangkok instead.

Mahavir sent Ankush a flight ticket to Bangkok. He also arranged a hotel booking for August 21, 2025. Ankush flew to Bangkok and stayed in the hotel for three days. Then, two men arrived at his hotel. They picked him up and forced him to cross a river into Myanmar.

Captivity and Exploitation in Myanmar

Near the border, the men handed Ankush over to a Chinese national. He was taken to a place called "KK Park." This was a compound where he was forced to work for a Chinese company. Ankush says he faced severe exploitation. He worked nearly 20 hours every day without any payment.

He remained in captivity for about six weeks. During this time, he observed around 250 other people. They were from India and other countries, all stranded at the same site. The conditions were harsh and freedom was nonexistent.

Rescue and Police Action

Eventually, military personnel rescued Ankush. They deported him back to India. After returning, he filed a formal complaint with the police. The Rohtak police have registered an FIR based on his statement.

Cyber police station SHO Kuldeep Singh confirmed the case. He stated that a case is now registered against Mahavir. Police efforts are currently underway to trace and apprehend the accused agent. The investigation aims to uncover the full network behind this alleged trafficking scam.

This incident highlights the dangers of illegal migration promises. It serves as a warning for others seeking overseas opportunities through unofficial channels.
