A Rohtas court on Friday convicted five individuals in a two-year-old robbery-cum-murder case, sentencing three of them to life imprisonment and the remaining two to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
Verdict Details
District Judge-II Vijendra Kumar Rai pronounced the verdict in connection with the killing of Bajrangi Singh, which took place on March 24, 2024, near Dhaudand village under the Sasaram Mufassil police station area. The incident occurred along the Dehri–Diliyan canal road near Madaini Bridge Chhath Ghat.
Prosecution Case
According to the prosecution, Singh was returning to his home in Mednipur around 7:30 pm from his shop in Dhaudand on a motorcycle, accompanied by his friend Dhanji Pal, when the accused intercepted them with the intention of robbery. When Singh resisted, he was shot with a pistol.
Hearing the gunshot, nearby villagers rushed towards the spot, but the assailants fled. Singh, who was critically injured, was taken to Narayan Medical College, Jamuhar, where he later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Sentences
The court awarded life imprisonment to Vishnu Kumar, Yogesh Kumar and Bittu Paswan. The other two convicts — Manoranjan Kumar and Shankar Kumar — were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The FIR was lodged by the victim’s brother Alok Kumar at the Sasaram Mufassil police station. Additional public prosecutor Anil Kumar Singh said the prosecution examined 10 witnesses during the trial. The three principal accused were found guilty under Sections 394, 120B and 302 of the IPC, along with Section 27 of the Arms Act, while the remaining two were convicted under Section 394 IPC.
