Massive Rs 1.4 Crore IMFL Smuggling Racket Busted in Chandauli

In a significant crackdown on illicit liquor trade, authorities in Chandauli have intercepted a truck smuggling branded Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) valued at approximately Rs 1.4 crore. The operation was conducted on Tuesday through a coordinated effort involving police from the Saiyyedraja police station, the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, and the surveillance cell.

Details of the Seizure and Arrests

The truck, which was en route from Dadri in Noida to Bihar, was stopped during a routine check near the Kale Peer Baba Mazar in the Jethmalpur area under Saiyyedraja police station jurisdiction. Upon inspection, officials discovered a cleverly concealed consignment of IMFL hidden beneath paper bobbins, which are typically used for winding thread.

The seized stock comprised 849 crates containing 7,473.36 litres of various premium brands of IMFL. This substantial haul underscores the scale of the smuggling operation aimed at evading taxes and regulatory controls.

Official Statements and Investigation

Chandauli ASP (Sadar) Anant Chandrashekhar and CO (Sadar) Devendra Kumar provided detailed insights into the case. They confirmed that the estimated market value of the confiscated liquor is Rs 1.4 crore, highlighting the financial implications of such illegal activities.

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the smuggling racket. The accused have been identified as Harishchandra and Ankit, both residents of Mainpuri. In addition to the arrests, the truck used for transportation has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.

Broader Implications and Enforcement Efforts

This incident sheds light on the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in curbing the illegal liquor trade across state borders. The use of sophisticated concealment methods, such as hiding contraband under industrial materials like paper bobbins, indicates the evolving tactics employed by smugglers.

The successful bust is attributed to the joint action of multiple police units, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated efforts in tackling organized crime. Authorities are likely to intensify surveillance and checks on major transport routes to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the investigation progresses, further details may emerge regarding the network behind this smuggling operation and its potential links to broader criminal activities.
