Rs 1.5 Crore Jewellery Vanishes from Bank Locker in Lucknow

A shocking case of theft has emerged from Lucknow where jewellery valued at nearly Rs 1.5 crore was allegedly stolen from a bank locker. The incident occurred at a nationalised bank's Kapoorthala branch in Aliganj area. The locker holder has filed a formal police complaint accusing bank staff of involvement in the theft.

Complainant Discovers Empty Locker

Babita Sinha, a resident of Sopan enclave in Priyadarshini colony, made the distressing discovery on January 12. When she accessed her jointly held locker, she found all the gold and silver jewellery missing. The locker was originally shared with her late husband Rajesh Sinha, a businessman who passed away some time ago.

Babita immediately alerted bank officials about the disappearance. The bank conducted an internal check but could not locate the valuable ornaments. With no resolution in sight, she approached Aliganj police station on Wednesday to lodge an official First Information Report.

Police Investigation Underway

Aliganj inspector Ashok Kumar Sonkar confirmed that an FIR has been registered against unknown bank employees on charges of theft. "There are no visible signs of external damage to the locker," Inspector Sonkar stated. "We are investigating how and when the jewellery went missing."

Police are examining several angles in this puzzling case:

  • Statements from bank staff are being recorded systematically
  • Locker operation records are under detailed scrutiny
  • CCTV footage from the bank premises is being analyzed
  • All related documents are being examined carefully

Gold Loan Mystery Adds Complexity

Investigators have uncovered another troubling detail during their probe. A gold loan was apparently availed in the name of Babita's deceased husband. According to police sources, Babita had no prior knowledge about this loan arrangement.

This discovery has raised important questions for investigators. They are now probing whether the missing jewellery was removed specifically to avail this loan. Alternatively, police are examining if other irregularities might be involved in this complex case.

The investigation continues as authorities work to determine exactly what happened to the valuable jewellery and who might be responsible for its disappearance from what should have been a secure bank locker.
