The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has summoned the roster team of the Punjab health department over alleged irregularities in the promotion of health workers. The commission has sought a detailed report on the matter, expressing concern over the violation of reservation rules.
Allegations of Irregularities
According to sources, the promotions were carried out without following the proper roster system, which is mandatory for ensuring adequate representation of Scheduled Castes. The NCSC has taken cognizance of complaints from employee unions and individuals who claimed that their rights were overlooked.
Commission's Action
The commission has directed the roster team to appear before it and explain the deviations. It has also asked for a complete list of promotions made in the health department over the past few years, along with details of the roster points used.
This is not the first time that the NCSC has intervened in Punjab's health department. Earlier, it had issued notices regarding similar complaints in other districts. The commission is expected to take strict action if the irregularities are confirmed.
Employee Unions Welcome Move
Employee unions have welcomed the NCSC's intervention. They claim that many deserving candidates from Scheduled Castes were denied promotions due to manipulation of the roster system. The unions have demanded a thorough inquiry and punishment for those responsible.
The health department has assured full cooperation with the commission. A spokesperson said that all records are being compiled and will be submitted on time.
