Seven people were killed and several others injured in a collision between a truck and a van in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district on Saturday. The accident took place near the Chitarpur police station area, according to police officials.
Details of the Accident
The incident occurred when a speeding truck rammed into a van carrying passengers. The impact was so severe that the van was mangled, leading to the deaths of seven occupants on the spot. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police sources confirmed that the truck driver fled the scene after the accident. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to apprehend the driver. The identities of the deceased are being ascertained.
Response and Investigation
Senior police and administrative officials visited the accident site and supervised rescue operations. The injured are being treated at Ramgarh Sadar Hospital, where the condition of some is stated to be critical.
“The truck driver lost control and hit the van. We are investigating the matter and will take strict action against the guilty,” said a police officer on condition of anonymity.
Previous Accidents in the Region
This stretch of road has witnessed multiple accidents in the past due to overspeeding and poor road conditions. Local residents have demanded better road safety measures and strict enforcement of traffic rules.
The state government has announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. An ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 has been provided for the seriously injured.
