Tragic Monday Claims Six Lives in Separate Kerala Accidents
Six people lost their lives in two separate road accidents that occurred in Kerala on Monday. The tragic incidents happened in Kunnamangalam, Kozhikode, and Monippally, Kottayam, leaving families devastated and communities in mourning.
Early Morning Horror in Kozhikode
In the first accident, three people died when a fruit-laden pick-up truck collided with a car in Kunnamangalam during the early hours of Monday. The crash happened at Muriyanal near Kunnamangalam around 2am.
Police reports indicate Subukki AP, 27, was driving the car toward Koduvally when the pick-up truck traveling toward Kozhikode rammed into the vehicle. The impact was so severe that the car crumpled into a mangled heap.
The deceased victims have been identified as:
- Subukki AP, 27, from Appurath Poyil House, Perumpally in Malappuram
- Ahammed Nihal M, 27, from Mandatt House, Vavad, Kozhikode
- Shameer M, the truck driver, from Marakkathodi House at Pozhuthana in Wayanad
Shafeek U, a co-passenger in the truck from Uranian House, Pozhuthana, Wayanad, sustained injuries in the collision.
Emergency responders faced a challenging situation at the crash site. Fire and rescue services personnel had to cut open the truck cabin to extract those trapped inside. All three victims were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Police have registered a case against the truck driver under BNS sections 281 for rash or negligent driving, 125(a) for rash or negligent acts endangering life or personal safety, and 106(1) for causing death by negligence.
Temple Return Turns Tragic in Kottayam
The second accident occurred later in the day at 11am in Kottayam. A KSRTC bus collided with a car near Monippally on MC Road, claiming three more lives.
The passengers involved in this crash were returning from visiting Thiruvairanikulam Temple in Aluva. The collision proved fatal for three individuals and left others seriously injured.
Those who died in the Kottayam accident include:
- K K Sureshkumar, 50, from Neendoor
- His wife Ambili, 45
- Arjith, 7, the son of their friends
The car sustained severe damage from the impact of the crash. Three other passengers traveling in the same vehicle were admitted to hospital with serious injuries.
The injured individuals are Sureshkumar's friend Plathanam Suraj, 45, from Kollam, his wife Rakhi, 40, and Sureshkumar's son Gokul, 12. All three are currently undergoing treatment for their injuries.
Local residents joined police and fire force personnel in a coordinated effort to extract the deceased and injured from the wrecked car. The scene demonstrated community solidarity in the face of tragedy.
Young Arjith, who lost his life in the crash, was a Class I student at Kaipuzha St Margaret's UP School. He was the son of Suraj and Rakhi, who survived the accident but suffered injuries.
The funeral for the victims will be conducted on Tuesday afternoon at their residence, bringing closure to a day marked by profound loss.
