In a serious development in Mangaluru's Sullia taluk, a case of assault has been officially converted into a murder investigation after the victim died from his injuries. The Sullia police have arrested two individuals in connection with the crime.

From Assault to Murder: The Tragic Turn

The incident originated from a dispute. According to a complaint filed by Sumayya (35), a resident of Sullia Kasaba village, her husband Abdul Jabbar was assaulted by the accused on October 16. The complainant alleged that the accused, identified as Mohammed Rafiq and others, took Jabbar to Duggaldadka where he was harassed.

He was then reportedly brought to Sullia Kallugundi, where he was subjected to a brutal assault. The assailants also threatened him with dire consequences before letting him go. The following day, on October 17, Abdul Jabbar fell seriously ill while at home.

Medical Report Confirms Fatal Link

Jabbar was rushed to a hospital for urgent medical treatment. Despite all efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. Based on the complaint lodged by Sumayya on October 18, and critically, after the medical report confirmed that Abdul Jabbar's death was a direct result of the assault, the police took decisive action.

The case was altered from assault to murder. The charges have been framed under Section 103 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police Action and Arrests

Acting on the complaint and evidence, the Sullia police launched a detailed investigation. On Monday, they arrested the prime accused, Mohammed Rafiq (41), who is also a resident of Sullia Kasaba. He was produced before a court, and the police secured his custody for further questioning.

In a significant step, the police also seized the car used in the commission of the crime. The investigation led to another arrest on Tuesday. Manohar KS alias Manu (42), a resident of Sullia Sampaje, was taken into custody. He too was produced before the court, and the probe is actively ongoing to uncover all details of the case.

The conversion of the case to murder underscores the gravity of the crime, with the police now treating it as a homicide due to the fatal outcome of the attack. The community in Sullia awaits further developments as the investigation continues to unfold.
