Assistant Sub-Inspector Amarjit Singh, in-charge of the Kairon police post in Tarn Taran's Patti, died on Thursday night after his service pistol accidentally discharged. The 52-year-old officer was cleaning his weapon when the incident occurred, according to police officials.

The bullet struck Singh in the head, leaving him critically injured. He was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital in Patti, where doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival. Patti DSP Ravisher Singh confirmed that ASI Amarjit Singh died from a bullet injury sustained while cleaning his service weapon.

Second Such Incident in the Area

This marks the second accidental shooting involving a police officer in the Patti area within a short period. A few days ago, Gurmeet Singh, in-charge of the police post responsible for security at the Patti courts, died after being shot with his own service weapon. ASI Amarjit Singh is survived by his wife, a 27-year-old daughter, and a 19-year-old son. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination as part of standard procedure.
