In a disturbing incident at Chennai's Marina Beach, a 15-year-old horse handler was taken into custody by police for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl. The incident unfolded on Saturday night when the child visited the beach with her family.
Incident Details
According to police reports, the young girl spotted the teenager and his horse near the service road. Eager to please her, the family requested the boy to give the child a horse ride. However, instead of staying near the service road where the family waited, the boy took the girl towards the seashore, approximately 400 meters away in the dark.
Upon their return, the child was found crying incessantly. She narrated to her family that the boy had sexually assaulted her during the ride. Enraged by the revelation, the family and bystanders confronted and attacked the boy. The horse's owner intervened and rescued the handler from the angry crowd.
Legal Action
The family promptly filed a complaint at the Mylapore All Women Police Station. The boy was taken for a medical examination, detained, and later produced before a probation officer on the directions of the Child Welfare Committee. Police confirmed that the boy is a school dropout. Further investigation is underway.
This incident has raised concerns about safety at public beaches and the need for stricter background checks for individuals handling children in such settings.
