Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have busted a terrorist hideout in the Rajouri district as Operation Sheruwali entered its third day on Wednesday. The operation, launched on Monday, aims to flush out terrorists hiding in the dense forests of the Pir Panjal region.
Details of the Operation
According to officials, the hideout was discovered in the Sheruwali area of Rajouri. The forces recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles, pistols, grenades, and explosives. The operation is being carried out jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces.
Search Intensifies
The search operations have been intensified in the region, with additional troops deployed to cordon off the area. Drones and sniffer dogs are being used to track down any remaining terrorists. The security forces are also conducting door-to-door searches in nearby villages to gather intelligence.
Officials stated that the hideout was well-camouflaged and located in a difficult terrain, indicating that the terrorists had been planning operations in the region. The recovery of a large quantity of ammunition suggests that the group was preparing for a major attack.
Background
Rajouri and the adjoining Poonch district have witnessed a surge in terrorist activities in recent months. Several encounters have taken place, resulting in casualties on both sides. The security forces have been on high alert, conducting regular patrols and search operations to neutralize the threat.
Operation Sheruwali is part of a broader strategy to eliminate terrorist infrastructure in the Union Territory. The operation is expected to continue until the area is fully sanitized.
