Major Drug Bust in Thane: Rs 5 Crore Charas Seized
In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Thane Crime Branch's Unit-5 has arrested an alleged drug pusher and confiscated a massive 5.5 kg of charas, with an estimated street value exceeding Rs 5 crore. The targeted operation was conducted in the Majiwada area, leading to a major disruption of a suspected drug supply chain.
The Trap Near Global Hospital
Acting on specific and credible intelligence about a planned narcotics delivery between Saket Road and Balkum Pada No. 2, a police team under the leadership of Senior Police Inspector Salil Bhosale set up a strategic trap near Global Hospital. The officials spotted the suspect, who was behaving in a highly suspicious manner. He was promptly detained in the presence of panch witnesses.
A subsequent personal search led to the discovery of the high-value contraband in his possession. Deputy Police Commissioner of Crime, Amar Singh Jadhav, confirmed the recovery of the drugs and the arrest.
Identity and Investigation Unfold
The accused has been identified as Shanwar Anwar Ali (38), a resident of Kolkata. A formal case has been registered against him at the Kapur Bawdi Police Station under the relevant stringent sections of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Preliminary investigations have uncovered that the accused was in contact with individuals based in Nepal. The police are actively probing whether the seized drug consignment was sourced through this international network. Officers are also investigating the identities of the intended buyers within Thane and exploring the possibility of more individuals being involved in the supply chain, as stated by DCP Jadhav. A further probe into the case is currently underway.
